Autocratic Leadership Style and Employee Satisfaction

Arbitrary leadership has been shown to retain as much power and decision-making power as possible for the manager. (Khan)2015. Authoritarian leaders are the top leaders in the establishment and that he is at the centre of all that takes place in that hierarchy and that all authority emerges from them and ends with them. Melling and Little (2004). According to Iqbal, and others. (2015), authoritarian leaders are characterized by “I say” philosophy; Arbitrary leaders tell others what to do. Nanwankwo (2001) and Enoch (1999) described leadership style as a way for leaders to make decisions and emphasize production at the expense of any human consideration (quoted in Accor, 2014).

Autocratic leaders never allows decision from the subordinates, and the leaders are normally far away from the staff.(Ardichvili), 2010. It is a leadership that is enforced on an institute and it is occasionally referred to as powerful leadership. Decision making is done by autocratic leaders; however, inputs from staff may be sought in the practice, but hardly taken into attention. This is because they are generous autocrats. (Baughman), 2008.

Characteristics of autocratic leadership Style.

-Allows no input from group members in decision making.

-Requires leaders to make all the decisions.

-Provides leaders with the ability to command work systems and methods.

-Leaves group feeling like they aren't important with decisions or vital tasks.

-Tends to create highly planned and very rigid environments.

-Depresses creativity and out-of-the box thinking.

-Establishes rules and tends to be clearly outlined and communicate.

By this style of autocratic leadership style, subordinates should have the education and ability to full fill the goals that autocratic leaders set for them.(Cherry), 2020. Autocratic leadership style puts emphasis on the role of the leader and takes pressure away from the role of the team (Lipman), 2014. As the (Puny), 2016 says, autocratic leadership makes employee turnover. Because employees does not like to work under pressure and they are not interested to stay in a place where there are no appreciation or recognition for them. It makes less job satisfaction under Autocratic style. (Ryan), 2014.
